From EV Road Testing to EU Battery Passport: SHiC Introduces a New Compliance Data Service

Scandinavia Haining Center AB (SHiC) is introducing a new EU Battery Passport data integration service, connecting real-world electric vehicle testing with secure battery data processing and passport-ready compliance records.
The new service extends SHiC’s vehicle testing capabilities beyond conventional performance validation. Battery data collected during road, winter, endurance and range testing can now be structured, verified and prepared for integration with European Battery Passport platforms.
Turning Vehicle Test Data into Passport-Ready Records
During vehicle operation and testing, the Battery Management System — commonly referred to as the BMS — generates large volumes of technical data, including battery voltage, current, temperature, charging and discharging status, State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), cycle count and capacity development.
However, raw BMS data cannot normally be transferred directly into a Battery Passport. Different vehicle and battery manufacturers use different communication protocols, field names, units and data structures.
SHiC’s integration middleware is designed to collect and standardise these data streams, validate key fields and convert them into structured data suitable for Battery Passport applications.
The middleware currently supports communication through CANOpen, Modbus, MQTT and REST interfaces. It can standardise timestamps, voltage, current, SoC, SoH and temperature data while applying data masking, cryptographic signing, encryption and offline buffering.

The service follows a structured process:
Vehicle Testing and Data Collection
Battery and vehicle data are collected during real-world testing without requiring major changes to the vehicle’s core electronic control systems.
Data Normalisation and Validation
Raw data from different BMS platforms are converted into a consistent format and checked for completeness and data quality.
Secure Data Processing
Sensitive vehicle topology and technical information can be masked before transmission. Data integrity and secure transfer are supported through signing and encryption technologies.
Battery Passport Integration
Validated battery indicators can be connected with the corresponding battery identity and transferred to a European Battery Passport platform for lifecycle record management.
Protecting Sensitive Battery Technology
Battery data may contain commercially sensitive information related to battery control strategies, system architecture and proprietary algorithms.
SHiC’s edge-processing approach is designed to minimise the transfer of unnecessary raw data. Instead, relevant indicators can be processed, standardised and secured before being transmitted to the Battery Passport environment.
This allows vehicle manufacturers to prepare for European battery data requirements while maintaining greater control over sensitive technical information.
Combining Road Testing with Compliance Preparation
SHiC will initially offer the service through an EV Road Testing + Battery Passport Data Readiness Pilot.
The pilot may include:
- BMS data availability assessment;
- Battery Passport data gap analysis;
- Communication protocol and field mapping;
- Road-test data collection;
- Data normalisation and validation;
- Secure Battery Passport platform integration;
- A demonstration Battery Passport record and implementation report.
This approach allows automotive manufacturers to identify missing battery data and technical integration requirements during the testing stage, rather than waiting until the vehicle is prepared for European market launch.
